The Coral Sea Outrigger Canoe Club Incorporated was formed in 1995 based at Magnetic Island and relocated to its current location near the Rockpool on the Strand in 2001. Our club is affiliated with the national body for outrigger canoeing (Australia Outrigger Canoe Racing Association – AOCRA), and we actively participate in regattas and outrigger canoeing events in our North Queensland Zone.
We are a competitive club and many of our paddlers have gone on to compete on the world stage in signatory events such as Molokai Hoe Canoe Race (Hawaii), Hamilton Cup, Takapuna Cup (NZ), Norfolk Ocean Challenge, Vaka Eiva (Cook Islands), Savaii Crossing (Samoa), and more. Coral Sea has hosted a number of major outrigger paddling events including the International Va’a Federation’s World Sprints (2000) and the AOCRA National Titles (2016).
The Club continues to promote outrigger paddling and recruit new members. We are very pleased with the growth in our Honu Iki (Juniors), as well as in our senior divisions.
