Hamilton Island Outrigger Cup Returns!

Location: Hamilton Island, Queensland
AOCRA, in partnership with the Hamilton Island Events Team, is excited to confirm the return of the Hamilton Island Outrigger Cup, taking place from June 18–21, 2026.
This iconic event traditionally was run every June, drawing paddlers from across Australia and around the globe. We are optimistic that this event will return as a tri-annual (every 3rd) year event.
In the off-years, attention and sponsorships will shift to other signature races like the Great Barrier Reef Ocean Challenge (GBROC) —and nominated North Queensland Zone events.
We do ask that our paddling community in Australia and overseas get behind the return of this iconic event to ensure a successful endeavor for all. We have this opportunity to elevate our sport by inviting back paddlers who have drifted away, by inviting new paddlers to be a part of this incredible experience and to form relationships with Queensland Tourism and other partners for this and other exciting events on our calendar.

42km Marathon – Expression of Interest (EOI)
We’re excited to introduce a “Reunion” division—an invitation for seasoned paddlers to reconnect with their old teams and relive the magic of the Hamilton Island Cup. Bring the crew back together!
We will also be introducing a 12 - person change over option for teams who are new at change overs or those that feel their older bodies won’t be up to the 10 person change crews. What does this look like? You choose how you change over, full 6 in, full 6 out, help each other into the canoe however you can.
To secure your team’s spot in this premier challenge, submit your expression of interest now. We need to firm up numbers for canoes and escort boats asap. Keep in mind that there will be a max capacity of 100 teams for the 42 km change over race.
This is a preliminary registration of interest and the formal registration of teams for all races will be your next step.
